Tamworth Castle is the number one heritage attraction located in the town centre of Tamworth. 6 wealthy influential families have owned the castle over the centuries. The medieval motte and bailey castle has welcomed a number of royal visitors including King Henry II, King James I and his son Prince Charles. The ancient sand stone tower and shell wall still dominate views of the castle today. Whilst visiting this scheduled ancient monument witness the magnificent late medieval Great Hall, grand Tudor Chambers and Victorian suit of receptions rooms.

The castle hosts a varied and exciting events programme, education service and is also the ideal wedding location.

The Castle is reputed to have 2 resident ghosts – the White Lady and the Black Lady. The Castle motte is 14.3 m (50ft) high 23m (75ft) in diameter at the top and 85 m (280ft) wide at the base. The motte on which the Castle stands is one of the largest and oldest Norman Castle Mounds in England. It is second only to Windsor Castle which is 2 meters wider at the mound base.

The first Castle was a wooden structure built around 1070 A.D. - James 1 stayed at the Castle in 1619, while his brother Charles stayed down the road in the Moat House.
