The remains of the late-first-century palace at Fishbourne were first discovered in 1960. After extensive archaeological excavations, a new cover building protects the impressive remains of one wing. Here you can see Britain's largest collection of in-situ Roman floor mosaics. Other everyday Roman objects found from the excavations are displayed in the museum gallery. A new audio-visual presentation uses computer-generated images to explain the site. Outside, the garden has been replanted to its original plan, using plants that may have been grown then. A new 'Collections Discovery Centre' displays and houses yet more artefacts from both Fishbourne and Chichester district. Join a behind-the-scenes tour for an opportunity to handle some of these ancient objects. Special events throughout the year include a Celtic Spring Festival in April, a Roman Gladiator re-enactment weekend in September and a week of Roman army activities for all the family in October.
