The buildings at Michelham Priory have evolved over 800 years. The range of furniture and artefacts on display trace the property's religious origins through its life as a working farm and its development as a country house. Objects include tapestries, furniture (including some made in the 1920s/1930s for the owner at that time), kitchen equipment and a fully furnished eighteenth-century child's bedroom. Seven acres of superb gardens are enhanced by a fourteenth-century gatehouse, fully restored medieval watermill, Kitchen, Physic Herb and Cloister Gardens, a working forge, rope museum and a dramatic Elizabethan Great Barn, now used for weddings, corporate functions and as exhibition space. See our website for special events including the Spring Garden Festival in mid-April, an exciting Celtic Weekend with Iron Age living history activities followed by a new event, an Antiques and Collectors Fair at the end of June. Mid-summer sees three popular events, the Game and Country Fair in July, Sussex Guild's Crafts in Action in August and the Medieval Market weekend held early September.
