Description: The oldest part of this lovely timber-framed house was built in the fifteenth century. It was given to Henry VIII's fourth wife (Anne of Cleves) as part of her divorce settlement. The kitchen and bedroom are furnished in period. The Lewes Gallery tells the story of Lewes from the fifteenth century to modern times, the role of local resident Tom Paine, the Lewes Bonfire traditions and the sad story of the Snowdrop Inn. A further gallery illustrates the important Wealden iron industry and there are also displays of everyday domestic objects and children's toys from times past. The historic atmosphere and beautiful enclosed gardens give a very real feeling of stepping back into an earlier age. In October 2008, Anne of Cleves House Museum will host a Tudor Fair that's not to be missed!
