The museum boasts the world's largest collection of historic trolleybuses (45), and they date from 1927 to 1985. Many of the exhibits are restored to working order and carry visitors around the museum, which has adopted a 1950s/1960s feel, with contemporary motorbuses, street scene and shop window displays, a prefab 'home' exhibition, cycle and lawnmower museum as well as an exhibition of trolleybus and transport artefacts. There is also adequate free parking, tours, gardens, play areas, picnic areas, AV shows, a souvenir shop, cafe and visiting attractions. Sandtoft Gathering is the museum's major annual event with many added attractions. There is disabled access to most areas, but wheelchair access to trolleybus rides is not always available. The operating company, Sandtoft Transport Centre Ltd is a Registered Charity (no. 514382), and is run by volunteer members. It was established to preserve the trolleybus as part of Britain's Transport Heritage.
