Step inside the home, and mind, of the famous Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw. The atmospheric rooms in the house remain much as he left them, evoking the feeling that the great man has just gone out for the afternoon. George Bernard Shaw lived in this cosy and attractive Edwardian house for nearly 50 years.  As you walk through the rooms you can imagine that he has just stepped out. See Shaw's study, complete with typewriter, spectacles, pens, inkwell and pocket dictionaries. Look out for Shaw's Oscar - awarded for Best Screenplay for the film 'Pygmalion' in 1938. Outside, relax in the tranquil 3½-acre garden, complete with orchard, flower meadow, rose dell and richly planted herbaceous borders. Enjoy beautiful views of the garden and Hertfordshire countryside and find Shaw's revolving writing hut - so he could catch the light to work.
