Description: Nestling beneath the Twelve Bens mountain range is an award-winning heritage centre that offers a unique insight into nineteenth century Connemara life and the hardship endured by tenant farmers. Enjoy our presentation, 'Connemara through the ages,' which is available in both Irish and English. Experience our authentic reconstructions of a pre-Famine farm, a crannóg (an island used as a settlement), a ringfort (a fortified settlement from the Early Medieval Period) and a clochaun (an Early Christian place of prayer). See the restored homestead of Dan O'Hara (a man made famous in song and story). Guided tours with turf-cutting and sheep-shearing demonstrations are available for groups by prior arrangement. Visit our craft shop with its large selection of knitwear, marble, jewellery and other high-quality gifts. Our restaurant with fresh seafood. Farmhouse and self-catering accommodation is also available (please call or visit our website for more information).
