Seaton Tramway runs for three miles through East Devon's glorious Axe Valley. Views of the estuary and its wading birds are unrivalled from the popular open toppers, whilst enclosed saloons maintain comfort during bad weather. The Tramway originated from a miniature system in 1949, which evolved into Eastbourne Tramway (1954-1969). The move to Seaton occurred in 1970, after the company purchased the trackbed of the ex-BR branch. The terminus is in Harbour Road Car Park, Seaton, from where the trams take you through the Axe Valley to Colyton. You can break your journey at the station shop and restaurant, which offer a range of souvenirs, hot and cold food, and of course cream teas! The town centre is a short walk; sights include the twelfth-century church, with its unusual lantern tower. Special events include a Vintage Vehicle Rally, Bird Watching Trips, Santa Specials - and you can even learn to drive a tram!
