Milestones brings Hampshire's recent past to life all under one roof, inside one of the biggest buildings in Basingstoke. Set within a recreated town that encompasses houses, shops, factories and even a pub, a network of streets take the visitor back in time, and on a journey through the changing conditions and changing technologies from the late Victorian era to 1940s Britain. Using the free audio guides, discover how a blacksmith turned car repairer, visit a workshop with working machinery, learn how different forms of transport were developed. See how local industrialists responded to the changing technologies of the twentieth century and world events in the nationally important collections of Thornycroft, Tasker and Wallis and Steven's industrial vehicles all set in a realistic context. Historical characters and for families, hands-on activities, all add to the special atmosphere of a visit to Milestones. Special events and exhibitions throughout the year.
