Sir Richard Arkwright's Masson Mills were built in 1783 on the banks of the River Derwent at Matlock Bath, Derbyshire. These beautifully restored mills are recognised as the best surviving example of an eighteenth-century cotton mill and are the finest and best preserved example of one of the Arkwright's mills. They now house a shopping village and a fascinating Working Textile Museum illustrating Arkwright's Legacy, where you can experience the genuine atmosphere of Masson Mills and see authentic historic textile machinery spinning yarn and weaving cloth. Masson Mills form the Northern Gateway to the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site.
