Description: These are exciting times for The Bowes Museum, a French-style chateau in the picturesque market town of Barnard Castle, two miles from the A66 trunk road. The Museum is undergoing a transformation which, together with its wonderful history and outstanding treasures, makes an even more stunning visitor attraction. A Silver and Metals Gallery, due to open on Good Friday (April 10 2009), will enable a vast amount of previously unseen treasures to be shown in a dazzling display, while also acting as an introduction to the iconic Silver Swan musical automaton, recently featured on the BBC's News 24 and Inside Out programmes. This will be followed in the Autumn by a fabulous new Textiles and Dress Gallery, using the Museum's internationally important collections to illustrate the use of textiles in fashionable dress and historic interior design. Add the revamped Café Bowes, enlarged retail area, and upgraded visitor amenities for a wonderful day out.
