One of the most famous half-timbered houses in the country set in varied gardens and an attractive woodland estate. The Great Hall, Oak Parlour and priest holes evoke Tudor times while the small rooms, some with original William Morris wallpapers, show the Victorian desire for privacy and comfort. Fine plasterwork and tapestries, plus a fully equipped Victorian Kitchen and Servants' Hall. The restored garden has spring bulbs, rose garden, Summer border and stream garden; bluebell walks in the ancient Clough Woodland, rhododendrons, spectacular views of the grounds and Mersey Basin from a high embankment - the Bund. Peaceful walks in the wildlife oasis of Stocktons Wood. 1998 was the 400th anniversary of Speke Hall and this marks the four hundred years since the date of 1598 was carved over the front door during the time of Edward Norris, the first owner of Speke Hall, to mark the completion of the North Range and the building we see today. Events and activities reflect the different eras of the history of Speke, its estate and the families who lived and worked there, including open air theatre, children's activities, and much more. Picnic area by children's play area. Partial disabled access please call before visit, 0151 427 7231
